Does counseling work or is the only option full blown rehab?

can you still drink here and there after getting help?
Most people will say i'm wrong, :yeshrug: so take this how you will.

but i really think that learning how to moderate your drinking is a better option than abstinence.
Making people think it's all or nothing is the reason people have relapses, and makes for more difficult to control your life. That's what rehab does, try to get you to abstain completely, which is like making you a ticking time bomb.

You should try to limit yourself to one drink a day. that's it. Don't have to quit or anything. The drink can be as strong as you like. Just savor that drink and then call it a day. This is a more realistic way to beat alcoholism in my opinion.

When you abstain, your fine too, but you're still technically an alcoholic, just one who has been sober for however long. You didn't cure your alcoholism. you just hid it away where it can potentially pop up again. But if you learn moderation, you cured yourself of alcoholism completely.

You’ll need some inpatient stay if you are having withdrawal shakes - from alcohol can be fatal.

After that depends who you talk to - Europe they use disulfiram and CBT / moderation. In the US, AA firmly took hold without real evidence and they say complete abstinence forever and ever amen.

EDIT I don’t believe the AA dogma / approach.

This approach never worked for me. Every time I quit and try to have “just one drink”, I end up going on an alcohol binge that lasts several days. Complete abstinence is the only thing that’s worked for me.

ive had the worst when it comes to withdrawal. Drinking weeks straight without stopping. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Even with the worst people I can think of I think a quick death would be merciful. The first 1-2days are living hell. You can’t sit still yet it hurts too move. Can’t sleep no matter how many pills you take. Third day on it keeps on being a lesser version of it for a week or so.

I’ve read the same stuff as you. I’m young. I think the “you can die from it” is more due to people who have other health problems.

Start with counseling
If you need more go to meetings

if none of that does it, try vivitrol.

I did it once, I never fully committed to stopping drinking but I did stop binging and blackout shyt.

If you need someone to talk with further let me know.

Don’t know if that’s true or not, but seizures from alcohol withdrawal are very real - be safe breh

If you have to ask, then you do.

How you chose to go about it is your own choice. You know you have a problem so....

i guess im in the club ,because breh that is nothing lol

Especially on a friday night
That's what I'm saying... I typically drink a few beers on Friday night and Saturday night. If I did that every night, I dont feel like I would be an alcoholic for doing so. My homegirl drinks a bottle of wine every day after work...

I can tell you what worked for me.
Join a gym, and take it seriously.
Read fitness articles everyday, watch fitness youtubers like athlean x & pumpchasers.
Surround yourself with thoughts of fitness all day, everyday.
I love what ct fletcher once said "as soon as i wake up in the morning i immediately think of hypertrophy, which can mean drink lots of water right away, stretch, moisturize yo body, & take your multis"
Supplement with protein, multivitamins, fish oil & things that gives you energy.

Eventually you will see results, you'll want more results.
And you'll cut down.
