Most of that is in Illinois.

My mom has 150 acres in Kansas. Gonna retire and build on her land next to her.

If you want a slower lifestyle midwest is fine. Just stay within an hour of big cities, college towns, or military bases just to be safe, unless you have established family in those areas.

Wow very interesting page:ohhh:

But i dont know if these places are really abandoned or whether their owners are just hoarding the land. I find it hard to believe that no one is paying taxes on all that real estate. At the bare minimum you would expect the counties to have sold them ages ago.

I always wonder about abandoned factories and manufacturing.plants all over the country

There must be a good reason why people with bread ain't scooping up some of those places in Illinois
yes, it’s called greed. why open a factory in illinois when you can pay children $3/hr (that’s a very generous estimate) in indonesia?

This is Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in the historic black neighborhood of Bronzeville.

The parish is no longer active. It was once home to 3000 black Catholics but it has dwindled down to 50 so they merged it with three other black Catholic churches.

However, although the parish is no longer there, it's not exactly abandoned. The Catholic archdiocese of Chicago allows the public to still hold events in the building.

As you can see, the lights are turned on. This guy must've visited during Open House Chicago where they open many of the historic architecturally significant building up to the public for tours. He must've heard the parish is no longer there and mistakenly thought it was abandoned.

Some of this man's post are very deceptive and not telling the whole story. For instance, he posted this about an abandoned mansion in Barrington Hills. Barrington Hills is old money and wealthier than most of the towns in some of y'all's states. This was simply a mansion where the owner may have died and went into foreclosure.

This is the typical estate in Barrington Hills. It was the mansion that Luscious lived in when they filmed the TV show empire.
