Instead of being an Urban exploration, it’s like a suburban exploration.



I like it. I use to do this a lot in NOLA years ago when the city still had places to explore, places that had been neglected since Katrina, even before.

There are a couple of international cities I’ve tried it in too. Like in Berlin they have this old radio/satellite tower outside the city that use to be an old Cold War listening post.

I always wonder about abandoned factories and manufacturing.plants all over the country

There must be a good reason why people with bread ain't scooping up some of those places in Illinois

Also worth noting that just because its standing up, doesnt mean its structurally sound.

Redoing the cracked, leaking foundation on a factory the size of a walmart super center is expensive. So expensive that multiple years of operation wont cover the cost. This also ignores the cost of redoing the electrical lines on a building which was first wired in 1920, when there was basically no safety laws for industry. Think of outfitting a building the size of ikea with your equipment and having the entire thing light on fire due to funky wiring. Such a project would probably scare away comercial insurers also, meaning you couldnt get a comercial loan which requires that same comercial insurance.

And have you considered the lawsuits? im certain all these places are laced with lead and other heavy chemicals as well as asbestos cause this was the norm back in the day.

My visit to the Midwest like family in Cleveland and visiting Detroit and i even called Buffalo the Midwest even tho it’s upstate NY,,, the inner cities are terrible and ran by shytty politicians and lazy cops

The suburbs and outskirts of those cities look nice and have nice neighborhoods and strip mall areas..

This is Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in the historic black neighborhood of Bronzeville.

The parish is no longer active. It was once home to 3000 black Catholics but it has dwindled down to 50 so they merged it with three other black Catholic churches.

However, although the parish is no longer there, it's not exactly abandoned. The Catholic archdiocese of Chicago allows the public to still hold events in the building.

As you can see, the lights are turned on. This guy must've visited during Open House Chicago where they open many of the historic architecturally significant building up to the public for tours. He must've heard the parish is no longer there and mistakenly thought it was abandoned.

Whats interesting about the abandoned Catholic Church is they typically bury dead bodies or parts of Saints (Icons) under the alter. I always wonder what is involved in removing those icons?
