We sleep on how often Def Squad was dropping solo albums and then their group album in 98’

Erick, Red and Keith were dropping solo albums non stop albums in the 90’s

Then they dropped this joint

Edit, just remembered, Doc’s Da Name dropped in 98’ the same year as this album!

Hell, Red then dropped Blackout with Meth the very next year in 99’

They kept the 90’s popping

From 91’ to 99’

and you factor in Erick and Parrish dropping EPMD albums at the start of the 90’s and then again in 97’ when they reunited

It’s like one of them were either dropping a new solo album every two years

And E dropped that Insomnia compilation in 95’ :wow:

Def Squad was dropping nonstop classics forever in the 90's. What a time!

They sold a lot of records with El Niño too.

You mentioned Insomnia. That era of Erick's production was really him at his best!

Hell yeah

I was just really thinking about it

Because we always talk about Wu’s era and Death Row’s era but Def Squad was doing their thing too and non stop

Yessir bruh

I put that Insomnia album in and zone the fukk out, I love the concept of that album

I bought damn near everything from Def Jam that year. During that time when El Nino came out, Def Jam was giving out free bonus discs with every release that had unreleased songs or previewed songs from upcoming albums. This was for Def squad, DMX, Jayo felony, Onyx, etc.. Too bad Cormega's Testament didn't drop that year. That's the album I was anticipating the most.

Wasn’t that during the whole Survial of the Illest?

I remember that

Yeah they dropped the ball with not releasing The New Testament then.

yep. And there was even a survival of the illest tour album. DMX, Jay, Meth, Red, Erick Sermon saved Def Jam again in 1998.

Facts.

This tour pushed Redman to his only platinum plaque with Doc's Da Name. He had a lot of buzz months later for when the album dropped. And Def Jam was winning like crazy, throwing mad money behind the legends and their projects. Including Slick Rick. This era was really Def Jam's last classic run as a label.

It’s crazy because in terms of success, Red had the most success from 98’ to about 02’

I remember he said he got a $250,000 publishing check for his verse on Christina Aguilera’s song, “Dirrty”

I remember being at the mall with my gf at the time waiting for the bus. KMurray pulled up to the mall

This was when “The most beautifullist…” was killing the radio.

He was cool as fukk, I remember him just showing everyone love and us kids, he bought us all ice cream and shyt! Lol

a car was bumping his song and we all was out there dancing. It was wild.
