Redman was my Fav MC up to MF Doom.

I still got the Dare Iz A Darkside red CASSETTE

And I fukk with Def Squad heavy on the strength of when I was a shorty….

I remember being at the mall with my gf at the time waiting for the bus. KMurray pulled up to the mall

This was when “The most beautifullist…” was killing the radio.

He was cool as fukk, I remember him just showing everyone love and us kids, he bought us all ice cream and shyt! Lol

a car was bumping his song and we all was out there dancing. It was wild.

damn that’s up what’s up :salute::myman:

I am comfortable and I love you
I contend Dr Dre took a lot of his late 90s style from Erick Serrmon. Listen to something like You Do, I Do and compare it to the shyt he was doing on 2001. Very similar bounce and stripped back, piano/bass/synth type sound.
The samples for this album were dug up by a middle aged white woman :wow:

Didn’t know this. One of my favorite beats off that album

no doubt…. I will always have nothing but great memories of KM. It’s was such a random pull-up too in my little city. And for him to be as engaging as he was was dope

Looking back, signing with Def Squad would’ve been the way to go in the 90’s

1 you definitely would record an album

2 you getting beats from Erick, Red and Rockwilder

3 the album would’ve come out

4 you got paid

5 no label drama

They were very prolific but what control would they have had over the labels they were working with? It's not like there were actually a label themselves. Could it be that they were fortunate in that they were working with people behind the scenes who believed in their vision?

Def Squad was dropping nonstop classics forever in the 90's. What a time!

They sold a lot of records with El Niño too.

You mentioned Insomnia. That era of Erick's production was really him at his best!

Where would you place Erick in a list of great hip hop producers? Ive seen top 10s with him not get a mention so he may have become a little underrated. For me he's in the conversation with RZA, Primo, Pete Rock & Q Tip.

True

Could be and I’m sure that’s what it was

Which is why the point still stands, as an artist, that’s the type of group of people you’d want to work with

I bought damn near everything from Def Jam that year. During that time when El Nino came out, Def Jam was giving out free bonus discs with every release that had unreleased songs or previewed songs from upcoming albums. This was for Def squad, DMX, Jayo felony, Onyx, etc.. Too bad Cormega's Testament didn't drop that year. That's the album I was anticipating the most.
Yeah I got most of those too, Def Jam was killing it around that time..... That Mega album would have been DOPE.

I talk about this all the time!

E might be in my Top 5. My 5 changes back and forth though. I definitely have him in there with Dre, Primo, Tip, and RZA. Pete is in there and Marley. Mad classics between all of them. But Erick is mad mad underrated. That's true.

Redman's run from 96-99 was really impressive for someone who while critically acclaimed a lot of people thought of as just a street rapper.
