Over the course of the past decade and some change, there have been arguments of what a casual wrestling fan is, but it's either bias to particular promotions (AEW/WWE arguments), or missing the mark.

This thread we are going to squash all that noise and discuss what a casual fan means, and if it has weight in the age of streaming and niche products

My stance is that casual fans resemble those that peep one undertaker match and go "hmmm, let's see if Stone Cold came back", or one that watches the big 4.

In such cases, I am a casual to AEW, as I tuned in to see Stings retirement match, but won't watch Big Bizzness because koala fluff babble (mainly playing WOW, mating on the wife, or sleeping).

Does that make a bad animal...no. it makes me neutral and indifferent, as I enjoy a good wrestling match, but I have alternative I die hard for (DDT and MLW)

So I'm throwing you all in this thread to give examples, because the horse has been beaten and quite frankly stinks in the TSC.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to finished watching Intimidation Games :ehh:

Glad you made this thread cause MFs be throwing that word around without a clue of what it actually means.

"Casual fans" = Casual of fans of wrestling. That does not mean someone who never watches wrestling, never watched wrestling, or never intends to and that's what the majority of TSC posters seem to be talking about when it comes to "Casuals".

It's usually people that used to be bigger wrestling fans but aren't anymore. Might only tune in to Mania/RR/SS or when something newsworthy happens. Even if they tune in to a show, it's for a particular segment instead of watching the whole episode.

If you know what DDT or MLW is you're not a casual even if you don't watch AEW lol.

It's really not hard. Everyone has some form of entertainment that they kinda get into without analyzing it deeply or they just peep during a big event. Could be a sport, wrestling, video games, TV show, movie franchise, music genre, etc.

Just think about yourself in that scenario and then apply it to a casual wrestling fan.

So with that logic, I am not a casual of MMA because I only catch certain events but try not to miss ONE FC or a random obscure bush league event.

When I see casual thrown around. I think of somebody that's caught up in the bubble of "When did the WWF got rid of the E"

Or "THAT'S CHRIS JERICHO?!?!?"

That's a casual in my eye.

Good example.

No different from me being mindblown that OC changed his theme and folks like :mindblown: "BREH ITS BEEN OVER A YEAR WTF"

Hence, casual.

I had to because the arguments come off asinine and bias, rather than fair and precise.

For instance, the NBA game after Dynamite where every single embodiment of lapsed and casual fans sonically shytted on Jerikkko because he looked wash and flabby.

In their eye, they see this dude:

Not whatever the hell this is:

I feel that's more of a lapsed fan. Which could be a casual as well depending on how much they want to get into it.

I was casual in Attitude Era. I didn't post on boards or read dirt sheets, I just watched every week and enjoyed the show. Sometimes I would miss a week and life goes on.

When I got older I started to broaden my interest in wrestling and started analyzing the media and shyt and staying up on current news. I'm a hardcore fan now even if I don't watch AEW more than WWE or vice versa.

Touche' but often that tends to get confused with the casual argument because its like heads think "you need to watch a shyt load of wrestling to be hardcore". But there's layers to that.

I haven't seen a DDT event in months but catch on to whats going on.

I can't stand for the life of me to watch WWE, but I know that Cody may end up finishing his chapter.

Honestly, the whole casual definition seems more confusing and conflicted, than anything else. Given, the biggest argument nowadays is "why AEW doesn't appeal to casuals"

LIKE WTF IS A CASUAL NOWADAYS?!

To me it is someone who has no history, say stupid shyt and stand on it.
Example and I will use music tearms(based off a comment on Instagram)because majority of cacs are casual Hip Hop fans.
Cac-"Nelly was the first melodic rapper!":whoo:
Hip Hop heads-"You never heads of Bone casual?"

I was guilty of this argument when I said something of that effect (forgot the rapper). But dudes were fitting to have my head on a tree trunk.

On a different note, I remember a long time ago somebody on AllHipHop made a powerful thread saying that Force MDs birthed the Bone Thugs harmonizing sound. It didn't click to me until I heard the songs myself:

  • The double time harmonizing
  • The riding the rhythm of the song
  • crooning in different vocals
Goddamn man.... :whew:

I'd like to get this definition officially recognized by TSC because I'm always confused when people throw it around when arguing about wrestling and TV audiences :russ:
