My brother is schizophrenic. Really not much you can do for them outside of forced detainment if they break the law. If they don’t want to take their meds, this is America, you can’t make them. My brother is full manic like Delonte when he isn’t on meds. And he doesn’t like the meds, they essentially make him fat, sleepy and destroy his personality. I hate to see him both on and off meds. I wish there were more health facilities to deal with mental illness, but they’ve been slashing mental health budgets for years now.
Sounds just like my Uncle (RIP).

Where is the NBAPA? This shouldn’t be happening to any NBA player. This is unacceptable.
Dont think they are responsible for managing how players spend their money. I understand Delonte is BiPolar and been struggling with it for over a decade but the responsibility still falls on them and their families.

Now if you're saying NBAPA should have safety nets like healthplans for its players AFTER their playing day? Maybe.

America doesnt help people with mental illnesses. Mental health is just a buzz word. No weight behind it. My uncle was schizophrenic. All they do is wait for them to get violent, then toss them in jail. If they get out of jail, they end up homeless. It's sad.

my uncle and my daughters mom are Bipolar/Schizophrenic .. shyt is really crazy man. Sad as hell. My mom used to leave me with my uncle while she was at work. I literally watched him go crazy. shyt fukked me up. And now that my babymom is going thru the same thing it’s like damn ... life is crazy.

The thing about Delonte is he's a former millionaire who will never be a millionaire again.I don't think you can bring him to place of acceptance for the current life he lives.Even if he gets help he is a ill person who has to deal with the ether of being broke and washed. All his former friends are millionaires. Q.Rich and D.Miles attest have each other. This dude mental illness made him burn alot of bridges.
Made $14M before taxes during his career :francis:
wow that aint shyt after the lawyer fee's and taxes. If he tried to live the lifestyle of his peers im sure he's broke.

damn the nba must have hoe'd him on every contract.

People who havent been around someone with mental illness... wouldnt understand and shouldnt speak on it

there's absolutely no reason for anyone to live on the street and it should be illegal... there should be a place for these people to go

Meds in certain psychoactive situations, will subdue the problem but ruin the person also, which in turn makes the person reject them immediately. Nobody wants to be walking or laying around in a coma, for better or worse. This is why you'll see people resort to drugs, because chemically ... they will alter themselves and become "that new person" to ride that wave, instead of feeling "schizophrenic or bipolar" Like if you do a gram of coke... you dont feel "schizophrenic" anymore ... you feel "high on coke" So then, they chase that high to maintain not feeling schizophrenic....but like alcohol, you dont realize how you look and act, from the outside in. Sure you've made yourself feel different, but to others, you look like both train wrecks at once. And now you are a self subscribed addict, stuck in a loop. Then you have to deal with hopelessness and despair, delusions mixed with rock bottom that comes with it. Just an overall feeling of "It cant get no worse" Then you end up like Delonte, saying fukk it... I'll just chase what makes me feel well. Even though I'm not well. To him, he's feeling better than he would in his mind, regardless of circumstance. That's another reason why, when you see homeless people in a manic fit, they are usually delusional and on their own journey at that moment. It's a combination of the drugs and escapism. They will fight off the meds to try to be functioning, even if it means life or death.

.

And your 100 % right ... and like insaid they dont take they meds and self medicate or chose a diff substance to make em feel right ..but that only.compunds shxt and makes tings 10 x worse
