Kings decided they weren't gonna offer him the max then traded him to the Pelicans. Pelicans tried to get him to sign on the low(IIRC it was like 2/40 or something crazy under market). Boogie declined and got hurt.

it was pretty well reported that they soured on him because they didn’t view him as having the ability and temperament to be a “franchise guy”. talent and production didn’t hold Cousins back from getting his max deal from the team that drafted him. I agree he wasn’t worth the max, Kings did too, but it had more to do than just his basketball ability. I always thought he was overrated regardless, he struggled to play within team structure. He cost himself some serious $$. He would have rebounded with a decent deal regardless but he couldn’t capitalize when the money should have been available to him before the achilles tear. I do feel bad for dude for the injuries even if I didn’t like him as a player. He had a lot go wrong with his career
