You don't, but there is no reason to be so defensive about it and it is perfectly ok not to know.
It is really strange to get this as some geography test specially meant for Americans...
What a celebrity knows about our country is a typical question all famous people get when they have to deal with ex Yugoslavian countries, and it is not to shame anyone. It is exactly because we are small eastern European counties that are usually neglected on a big scale, that had lot of wars and problems, and still exist on the world stage in various sports despite the problems...
Just like Slovenians, in Serbia we are proud of our basketball, since it makes a country of 6 million people somewhat famous around the world, and maybe someone knows where we are because of it. Btw if Yugoslavia stayed together as a team we would have certainly a team fighting for a medal now...
Our reporters usually ask the question to all famous foreign players from big countries.
Yes, Parker, Gasol and Dirk were also the victims of this line of questioning... Our public likes to know the answer, and every now and then someone has a cool story that reveals his connection with our small country.
Like Batum, he said that he visited Novi Sad as a kid for a youth camp (a rather small city, and that is really cool for Serbians to hear) and that Bodiroga was his idol (our great player that never played in NBA and it was cool that he knew about an old Serbian legend).
Or Masai Ujiri last year had a cool story about visiting a fellow Nigerian that played in Serbia, and that he came to his friend's place too late when the guy was already sleeping, so he spent the night wandering the streets of Belgrade...
You guys are being too defensive and sensitive about this question...
That's an awesome perspective. Since I didn't hear the line of questioning, I didn't want distract from the response but I had a feeling it was a "David vs Goliath" type of question and not really done maliciously (again going by your statement as I have yet to hear the audio or context).
The part I want to draw attention is your confirmation that Parker, Gasol, and Dirk were also asked this, because you have people ready to make this into some sort of racist thing or a slight against a black person.
Fact is the ignorant posters in the morning crew were being super defensive about this and applauding a bit of ignorance on Cousin's part. The refusal to even listen to another opinion or viewpoint on this was perplexing.

?....It doesn't matter where Slovenia is!" like The Rock used to do to nigas would've been a better dose of that American arrogance
...cool answer thinking on his feet though
