I don't understand why folks were going in on her. Because she's laughing at the same jokes & memes everybody else is?
It’s context. Demi has struggled with both her sobriety and her mental health for a long time. And every single time she has a setback, regular folk and celebrities alike have been overwhelmingly supportive across social. Just search “Demi Lovato prayers” on twitter and see what pops up.
She also has a documentary where I believe she discusses the impact people’s words have had on how she sometimes perceived herself.
There’s also the simple fact she almost OD’d last year. And even then, most celebs supported her. They weren’t clowning her.
So if anyone, ANYONE should understand the potential impact these jokes could have on someone’s psyche... if anyone should understand how much a kind word could help when everyone else is being juvenile... it should be Demi.
Instead she tried to join in on the jokes and got called out for it. Then she took that personally, and well... you see how that worked out.
