And that’s what Democrats don’t get.” He has also drafted the Baileys in defending the C.I.A.’s human-intelligence program: “Had Joe and Eileen been in the room after the hum-int screwup, they would not have indulged in the blame game, gutted the human-intelligence program, or weakened America.” The Baileys, Schumer said, sometimes dine out—not often, because of the cost—and they like Chinese.

As swing voters, Schumer said, “the Baileys were very anti-Hillary when she ran in 2000, but they voted for her in 2006.” He went on, “They like Rudy. It depends on how he plays it. If Rudy continues to adhere to the right-wing Republican line, just cutting taxes for the wealthy, he won’t get their vote.”

The Democrat's theory of the electorate is completely wrong. Every single election since the Great Recession (2012 notwithstanding because the Republicans ran Mr. Recession) has been a change election because people have (justifiably) lost faith in the government. Elections aren't being won or lost on the traditional left-center-right spectrum for the issues you mentioned. People want a government that actually does shyt. The side that makes a more convincing argument that they'll do shyt is the side that will win. The Democrats can win going left on every single issue you mentioned, as long as their grand political vision is big and backed up with credibility. But instead they're responding to a big right-wing MAGA vision with small ball moderate bullshyt because they're afraid of their own shadow.
