Which is why damn near anyone - from a young latina bartender in NYC to a former marine oyster farmer in Maine to a septuagenarian Harvard Law professor to an old hippie ex-Mayor from Vermont to a 34 year old muslim ex-rapper in New York - is welcomed by the progressive movement, as long as they display commitment to the progressive political agenda. What you're calling "consensus group think" is just ideological commitment to a moral and political philosophy. This differs from the power aesthetics and vibe-based "adult in the room" approach the centrists and Libs have.
