That doesn't make sense. If something is unpopular in general (such as supporting Israel) and a low priority for voters then why even support it?

Unless you think they're supporting Israel for moral reasons, or because they're Zionists, it has to be because they're scared of AIPAC. Democrats are not getting any political benefit by trying to justify to their voters why the US is blowing up schools or fighting a war none of their voters wanted.
