I do think there's some truth to this, especially when you look at the Civil Rights Movement, and Vietnam protests. They weren't expecting safety or convenience. They were fighting through it all to make their demands on the state be heard.

But I also don't think that means current concerns about doxxing, blacklisting, or institutional crackdowns should be brushed off. Those are real pressures points that can have long-term consequences, especially now that everything is amplified and permanent online.
