Decades ago , Dems were further right/conservative than they are today.
They had the power to pass this a lot more recent than that. Instead of actually helping out folks that were wronged they wait til it will score political points but go nowhere since they don’t have the house. Politics 101

Good bill, however the shyt that pisses me off is that this is no where near as effective as the original bill. They would have increase the benefits to even begin to right the wrongs.

The loan is not “as” useful to boost black wealth and status today as it was back then. Housing prices are outrageous, while wages are trash. Back then a GI bill probably got you a good-great piece of property that their (great) grandchildren are enjoying the benefits of today, or already sold for 4, 5, who knows times the original purchase.

A college degree today is not at elite or “separating” as it was back then.

It’s like if they deprived a black family of 5,000 in 1920….and then today said, as reparations…we’re going pay you what what is owed…5,000. Naw, that’s short changing us.

Or when they finally want to let females become pilots in mass, just as the pilot career essentially goes to shyt. Smmfh

Warnock introduced this bill in November 2021 why did not pass when the Dems controlled everything :martin:
Dude they had 50 Senate seats and two are conservative and would never vote for this. They needed 12 more votes to pass it normally and 2 more to pass via re reconciliation. I'm not even sure you can do this through reconciliation.

I have no issue with this outside of deciding which descendant gets it especially for those who can no longer make the selection.

Like I won’t use mines but I want to change which child I’m giving it to my daughter is on her way to a scholarship and my youngest my oldest isn’t going to college so I want to give it to my other son but I’m not allowed to hopefully that changes in a few years.

The political landscape in Congress at the moment makes this bill just a performative gesture. The bill could probably be pushed through a budget bill, so theoretically budget reconciliation could be used for it (only 51 votes needed in the Senate), but some how the Democrats always have just enough dissenters to make sure these sort of bills will not pass.

They are great at putting up performative efforts that many will point at and say, "See if only they had enough numbers we would have this." or "Those Republicans are always hindering our attempts at good policies." It is just amazing how those attempts seem to rarely occur when they actually have a majority in the House and Senate, while also having a Democratic President.
