Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks wants his former team, the Buccaneers, to select quarterback Jameis Winston, in the draft.

"I believe he will show them his work ethic behind the scenes, as well as his knowledge of the game and the feel of the game," Brooks said, via the Tampa Bay Times. "I do hope he impresses them enough to pick him.

"His resume speaks for itself. He has done some impressive things that mimic the pros today."

And if the Bucs do select the Heisman Award-winning signal caller from his alma mater, Brooks plans to play a pivotal part in helping the former Seminole adjust to the NFL, per Ira Kaufman at the Tampa Tribune.

“I think if Winston’s the pick — and I think he will be — I think Brooks will play a role in trying to corral this kid, mature him, even bring him into his home, if necessary,” Kaufman said per Pro Football Talk. “That’s how much Brooks cares about FSU, about the Bucs, and seeing this franchise get relevant.”

Kaufman is confident Tampa Bay will indeed take Winston.

“I see Winston in a Bucs uniform,” Kaufman said. “Yes, there will be protests . . . but I think in terms of pro potential, I think most people would tell you Winston is ahead of [Marcus] Mariota.”

Remember the narrative is always that black players need mentoring. Especially when they are in positions of leadership like QB.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a mentor. I don't know why people think that only players who have had hardships and setbacks in life need one. A mentor is someone who has experience that can help guide and motivate someone. We all need mentors.

Lemongrass, cherries, alkaline water
nah he should get as far away from Fl. as possible...seems like an agenda to bring him down in that state

I agree. He should go somewhere he can sit down for a year or two behind a quality NFL Qb and learn the game. A young team, with a good offensive line and some weapons so in a year or two he can step in and immediately succeed. I think I know just the place :smugfavre:

I agree and have had mentors and have mentored folks. My beef is the narrative is that black athletes always need mentors. Where as the media almost never says white dudes need mentors unless they are well known fukk ups. That is what I am talking about.
