Absolutely. Social conscience in my mind is irrespective of era. What is being discussed is an individual's level of maturity, self awareness, and social awareness of societal ills. I'm sure you could find African Americans during the civil rights era who would give a similarly clueless response as "don't bite the hand that feeds you" if they were living the insular life that he is. With the frictionless access to information today I would expect a 12 year old to give a more socially aware and responsible answer than this young man. just my opinion though.

You can't compare eras like that.. Different times and a different climate.... nikkas had wives and families at 21.... and just matured a whole lot earlier in general.... mainly because we had to....
