Because their lives don't change much year-to-year, administration-to-administration, even mayor-to-mayor or neighborhood commissioner-to-neighborhood commissioner.

That shyt does not change much at all, and it feels intentional.

The then governor of michigan,Rick synder, knowingly poisoned residents of flint and neighbouring areas with lead and that's just one example out of hundreds as to why
politics and who's in power directly impacts people's lives, positively or negatively, no matter where you live.
Put a progressive or any decent politician in his place and do you thionk the result would have been the same.
You think Rashida tlaib, for example, would have knowlingly poisoned her own people?

So politics does indeed matter a great deal

Re-read what I said.

Flint has been among the most impacted cities in Michigan since whites left in the 70s and deindustrialization took place. Then President Obama arrived and told everyone the water was safe and drank it, even though it took four more years for the water to actually be safe. This is an area that overwhelmingly votes Democrat. A progressive doesn’t make it that far because the @88m3 types vote, have more money and influence and don’t like progressives because it impacts their bottom line.

The only substantial change that happens in the day to day lives of people is through a mass and organized movement. Voting is the last part of the political process, not the only part.

Voter suppression is real.

The only way this country will see significant change is if everyone starts collectively voting for progressive candidates, but for some reason too many lower and middle class people stay voting as if they are in the top 1%. :francis:

I feel like people are caping a little too hard for nonvoters.

While I can understand cynicism, I have some nonvoters in my family and for the most part they're just willfully ignant. :yeshrug:
I'm not caping for them. My statement is we are taught that voting is all that matters. Voting is the last lap of the relay race. We need to be involved before voting, and yet Americans are not.

I love the "not interested" crowd. How are you not interested? It affects your entire life. While i agree that voting can be largely ineffectual, you can reduce harm.
My AP Gov teacher called it the "dog-butt worldview". Basically like dogs leading a sled. If you aren't the lead dog the view never changes, you're just looking at dog butt

There's levels to viewing this. You know and I know that Trump being a massive fool has made life substantially harder for basically all of the common people in this country, but the politically detached who haven't seen crazy life changes under his admin view it as just another dikkhead in office. There's a lot of folks in this country so caught up in tryna survive that they have no idea that they can live while they do so. Its sad shyt that also reflects a lack of understanding about civics

Truth. Here in the UK, I know folk who don't even know we've had the same political party in power for over a decade just because its leaders have changed. When that dikkhead Boris Johnson won the General Election, some were on a "Happy to finally have a new government in power now" hype:francis::mjlol:

what would happen if all those non-voters voted for your favorite progressives in primaries and then the general?
They'd likely win since high voter turnout in primaries is usually somewhere around 15% for a winning candidate.

“Not much, it seems, would motivate them to vote, either. Asked what they think would most encourage people to vote, the top answer was none or nothing (35%).”
:dead:
Some cats are here for the ride. Sad, but it's something folks have to accept.
