call of duty and Diablo iv alone cost more than I pay for a yearly subscription. So yes. It’s doubled the value

Pointless is not the right word but I guess that's the clickbait. it totally shifted them into a 3rd party developer.
ABK was already much bigger and more profitable than Xbox Game Studios and at the end of the day, it's still Microsoft. Instead of buying up all that stuff for exclusives to play console wars, they pivoted to the business model that's made the parent company the behemoth they are and put their software on absolutely everything
Now as a general consumer sure you can say there's more stuff on Gamepass and all that but as a BRAND Xbox has pretty much no prestige now compared to Sony and Nintendo. The 360 era was the last time the Xbox name was truly strong.
Sure Microsoft is probably making a ton of money this way but Gamepass having Day 1 games and Quick Resume are literally the only reasons to have an Xbox over a PS5 at this point
