Didn't Bungie receive 100m investment from Tencent a year or so back? I wouldn't be so hyped to put this all on Activision, their new Chinese overlords might be no better

this was just free money basically... take cash, give them a seat at the table, and have entry to sell games in one of the biggest markets in the world. wouldn't effect bungie/activision at all

Bungie (from vanilla D1 times) had to hit predetermined sales & financial targets or otherwise fully lose the IP. Safe to say they hit their marks following today's news.

I'm expecting Activision to make a big splash ( studio acquisition or new IP announcement) to compensate. While Destiny is not COD or Overwatch even, it's still a significant loss from their portfolio.

I got Destiny 2 for free in one of the PSN months. Can I have some fun shooter gameplay without any of the expansions or DLC?

You'll get access to the vanilla story and I think all of the PvP maps. The story is average run of the mill good guy vs bad guy. PvP is turning into everything being "broken" and you won't have access to many of thr "broken" guns so that may get frustrating.

If you enjoy a decent story that can be played with up to 2 other friends then yes.
The base game is solid and the campaign is decent in length and overall quality.
If you like it, there's a ton of new content you can get into.
As far as free games go, it's one of the best PSN has ever had.

I got one Prime match in late last night after I did the catch up bounties to get to 640 (I'm woefully behind. I JUST got a Malfeasance last week). That shyt is CRAZY .

Like to the point that I'm not sure that I want to play regular gambit for a bit. Every change I think was ultimately for the better, even the ones that I was annoyed with.

The constant invasions are kind of annoying, but while working on my Malfeasance, I realized that I like and am pretty decent at defending against invaders. shyt made for a tense tug of war.

It's also great that the mode FORCES people to finally kill the fukking envoys. I've played far too many games where people were dumping heavy ammo and supers into the primeval without touching ads or the envoys first.

Can't wait to play the Reckoning. I've been checking in on the Destiny Reddit, and the dataminers have already blown the lid on most if the lore for this expansion. The setup for whatever the next big release is is fukking nuts.

Truthfully, with the Forge(s) and now this, the annual pass model has been underwhelming to me. Thank God for the Forsaken era as otherwise D2 as an entity has mostly been meh, saying this as an unabashed stan

After beating the Forsaken story arch I've had a hard time finding the interest to jump back into this.
I got my money's worth though so I ain't mad.

I got a couple of rounds of The Reckoning in last night. It's fun. It might have been because I was grouped up with a good set of players, but for the majority of it there were only three of us, and treated it like it was light work. Tier two and up ate probably going to be status though.
