Hinkgod bytches!!!
A LOT of people argued that... that was the whole reason the nba stepped in and pushed for them to get rid of hinkie.. that wasn't the ownership acting alone.. that was the general consensus of the nba owners/coaches/players current and former, saying the sixers were bad for the league
meanwhile dude got them a pretty stacked young team and a pink slip for his work... basically being told "if you gonna suck, just suck better, and still don't improve"
I agree with that. I don't think they thought they'd be this badWell, hold up.
They still fukking suck. There is ZERO proof this team is "pretty stacked" -- their best three players all play the same position, and you can't play any of them together.
They had one decent wing, and traded him away. You have to be realistic about what they are. Their best asset hasn't play, because he's been hurt over and over. And on top of that, he was hurt when they drafted him... so they KNEW he was an injury risk.
I thin the Joel Embiid thing, is where I disagree with the fully pro-Hinkie crowd the most. They're like "If he wasn't hurt, he'd be dominant. That's such bad luck!" But he was hurt when you drafted him. You took that on. It didn't come out of nowhere. It's not like Oden, who blew his knee out after getting drafted. You knew Joel was an injury risk, that's why he fell in the draft... and you took him anyway. Now, Nerlens Noel has healed up well, which is great. But you draft an injured center, you are taking that risk on. You don't get to turn around and blame the injury. It didn't fall out of the sky and land on him. It was there.
I was pro tanking for the knicks last season (not THIS season) -- because they needed a young talent. I think clearing the decks of contracts and players you don't want, and losing for a season or two is a SOUND strategy. But I think tanking in perpetuity until you get the next lebron, kd, kareem, or shaq is tough. Because those players don't always come around, and you won't always get the first pick. Tanking only really guarantees you at top 3 pick. shyt, top 4-5 if you're truly unlucky.
And I think they have faced some of that reality by drafting some one-dimensional players, who are good pieces, but not franchise altering in Noel and Jahlil.
They are in better shape than they were three years ago, certainly. More assets. But they suck. And they won't be good this year, either.
So the question becomes, how long should a GOOD GM need, to get the team moving in the right direction, and playing respectable basketball?

You'd think with 3 top picks, plus thinking embiid would be ready last season, and maybe they could have already traded one of these centers, they'd be better
Yeah. You would hope.
Look at the Timberwolves. Nobody is speaking on them tanking. Cause they made it look good. But they been doing the same thing. Collecting young talent, 2-3 lottery picks. And now everyone is sucking their dikk, when their record ain't too much better than ours.
Yes, but they drafted a two way player big man of the future, who just had a HISTORICALLY GREAT season.
And they won three times as many games as the 76ers. Triple the wins is a significant gap.
Once we get Simmons and get 2 guards, I'm sure we'll be right back in the thick of things. Our front court is good. We got hella dough to pick up free agents. And we got 3 first round picks.
They certainly have plenty of assets, and more on the way. Obviously this has to be the season when you start drafting/signing for need, and trying to build the roster back to respectability. But then you'll have to wait for it to gel, you also have to hope you have a coach in place that can coach all these young guys... you need one or two of them to quickly emerge as leaders. There's a lot that has to happen for them to be not awful. But I'm pulling for you.
We can't fukk that up. Right![]()
