You know something I notice, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful. Places like West Oakland and Detroit have been in shambles for years. As soon as white folks come in and clean up, gentrify or whatever, black folk always talk that bull about it needs "black people". It's been nothing but niccas there for YEARS and those places are full of guns, gangs and dope. You know what, never mind...
This is killing me...
I see it all the time in my own city (DC) its disgusting. This USED to be known as "Chocolate City" but in the 16 years I've been here, it's gone so far away from that it's crazy. I was like 13-14 when I moved here, I didn't understand or appreciate the "culture" DC had to offer. Now that it's mostly gone, I miss it dearly.
at 30, it's weird to see white folks in my part of SE or walking down Penn Ave SE at night, just plain weird, cuz they were NEVER around there. Now the city is putting up condos EVERYWHERE and moving the "TRUE" residents out to Maryland

America as a whole seems to be "selling out" or pushing that consumerism real hard and making the country I/we grew up in a distant memory. Everything now has to be "branded" and "marketed/pushed" right. We don't care for cities/communities, only what kind of developments, stores, brands we can create to MAKE MONEY. You basically summed it up bruh, we have turned into mindless consumers instead of developers/creators and can be swayed with the loudest or biggest dollar signs....
We have to get back to helping PEOPLE especially disadvantaged and less fortunate. Listening to CNN yesterday, (Crossfire) and dude (I forgot who) was saying we're the only "developed" country who doesn't have a universal healthcare/insurance for its citizens. He also said the 1% controls 68% of the wealth in the country while the bottom 30 something percent controls 2.5% or close to it Stop letting BILLIONAIRES make the economic, political, and social decisions in this country...sorry, off topic, another day perhaps...I just get sick of the injustices right in front of our faces...
