Should be an open and shut case for slander amongst other things.

These cops need to be fired and the city needs to pay her for this

I feel her pain but I was in that situation probably 4 yrs ago where I was in a store and I saw somebody's credit card on the floor. I picked it up and looked at it and I knew the person who it belonged to cause she was one of my customers.

But guess what I did?

I gave it to the person behind the counter and THEN I called my customer and told her that her card was at the store.

Why didn't I take it and give it to my customer myself?

Because if any one had been watching and saw me pick up a card and take it with me, they would have assumed I was stealing it.

Thats just common sense.

This is a VERY good example of why you NEVER EVER talk to police, especially without a lawyer. She asked for one initially and should’ve left it at that

Everything you say can and will be used against you. They tell you this. No matter how good your intentions are or what facts you believe you can present, you’re almost always going to make your situation worse

There was a video of some professor and a former cop going over this. Very informative

First things my parents taught me as a child: If I ever got arrested and taken to the station, don’t say anything and call them first, as an adult ALWAYS has to be present.

As an adult, don’t say anything without a lawyer present. Thankfully and touch wood, I’ve never been in that situation.
