The way they're following Dexter's mother in the flashbacks I'm sure we'll get lots more background on Dexter's father and Brian.
Yeah, this is still 1991...according to the internet Dexter season 1 was set in October 2006. So, he's been working with Matsuka, Batista, and them for a decade and a half before running into Brian again.
I'm actually enjoying the show a lot. But, thinking about why I enjoy it, a lot of it is the nostalgia factor. It's so familiar, it's like serial killer "comfort food".
