Since when has falling to the ground ever been a football move? He never had his balance after making the catch, if you know the rule then you knew right after you saw the replay that wasn't going to be ruled a catch.

And one play doesn't determine a football game anyway, didn't we learn that last week?

I don't think it should be in question that the ball hit the ground. You have to be delusional to think otherwise. And yeah, falling to the ground is not a football move

Right

I've seen a lot of posters saying the ball didn't hit the ground... :snoop:

The ball cleary hit the ground and if you read Dez's tweet he's alluding to that when he says I was trying to get control and reach for the goal line

So he fell

Didn't secure the ball while reaching for the goal line

According to the rule it's not a catch....

yall can cop pleas all you want, those refs not walking through that door to reverse the call, and neither is Goodell to get rid of that rule.

This nut ass rule was put in a few years ago to try and make it easier for refs by the rules committee.. Instead of common sense, it was an attempt to remove the former grey area.. So yes the interpretation we know today, is just that, new.

He had enough control to make a one handed reach for the goaline before hitting the ground. To me its a clear catch. terrible rule and not in the spirit of the game. Just makes the nfl look bad when teams lose this way.

I thought when caught the ball contact was made and his knee hit the ground before the ball did:yeshrug:

The refs ruled he was 'going to the ground in the act of catching the pass'. In that case it doesn't matter, you have to control the ball throughout without losing control. When that ball started moving when he hit the 1 yard line it was all over.

I do agree, it's a stupid rule.

The problem with "going to the ground" is that dez leg and elbow hit the ground before the ball does...

So the "going to the ground" process should stop as soon as dez leg and elbow hit the ground...

So somehow Dez caught it...took at least 2 steps...leg down...elbow down...ball still firmly in hand...but that is not a catch...

The problem with the rule is that it is not clearly defined when the "process" ends...

I think the process should end the second dez leg and elbow hit the ground before the ball does...

Obviously the ref saw it different.

What is funny is that in the Indy/Denver game that had a similiar play where Cribbs got flattened on a punt return and fumbled and Denver recovered...

Replay shows cribbs catches it, gets hit, is down, then ball comes out

Ref says Cribbs completed the process of catching the ball and was down before the fumble...Colts ball

So somehow I got to guys who had possession and hit the ground and the ball bobbled or came out...but I got one ref saying one dude completed a process and one ref saying one dude didn't...and both are a catch...you have to catch a punt...you have to catch a pass

It was not a catch according to the rule its that simple. Falling to the ground isnt a football move. And the ball hit the ground that much isnt debatable. So you can think its a dumb rule (I do too) but you can't question the refs interpretation of it which was correct :yeshrug:

Thing is, he took three steps before falling onto the ground. The process of a catch was established at that point

Stumbling isn't a football move though. If he caught the ball and ran 3 steps then started stumbling that's a different story. He went up, grabbed it and came down stumbling fell on the ground and the ball hit the ground. That's a highlight play but not a catch. Just like Calvin johnsons play he obviously caught the ball but the refs said when he was coming back up to celebrate he didn't "complete the process".
