This has to be the most ignorant statement I have never heard. It says a lot about how educated the hip hop community is when an artist says people do drugs for the sake of everyone "seeing" them doing it like its braggadocios.

I don't smoke for the sake of everyone seeing me do it so they think I am cool.

Snoop and Dre got a lot of young people outside of Cali smoking weed because they made it sound like the best thing in the world that we needed to be a part of.

Braggadocio has always been a huge part of hip-hop. As history would tell it, back in the park jam days the MC would jump on the mic and hype the DJ, letting you know why he's the flyest DJ around. Then it turned into the MC telling you why he's the flyest MC. And the best MC's had the catchiest most clever rhymes, the most entertaining routine, the flyest outfits, the baddest broads, the highest quality drugs, etc.

People started falling back from celebrating getting high because heroin & crack was destroying so many lives. But clearly the drug culture is back, and the ability to stunt on a bunch of people at any given second via social media only takes everything up a notch.
