Sega announced that Ryo Hazuki, the menial task loving hero of the Shenmue games will be appearing as a playable character in upcoming kart game Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Ryo will be joining a bizarre mix of the great, good and less favoured characters in the Sega roster such as Sonic (naturally), Big The Cat (Yay!) and Shadow (Boo).

They see me trolling, they hating.....
If Sega was able to use Ryo's likeness then that means they could also make a Shenmue III right?

Who gives a fuk if the original creator (forgot his name, he's prolly old and swagless now anyway...time for new blood) ain't involved. Max Payne 3 and Halo 4 didn't have the original teams working on those games and they both came out fine

There’s been some controversy surrounding the recent Shenmue 3 Kickstarter, which creator Yu Suzuki and Sony Sony announced at their press conference at E3 last week. Now, Suzuki has done a Reddit AMA to answer some of the questions people had about his crowdfunding project, and there’s some some interesting answers in there. Chief among them was that while the original Kickstarter only asked for $2 million, he’s estimating that it will take quite a bit more than that to make a full open-world title: $10 million, to be specific.

“I will say this: if we reach the $5 mil mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality,” he said. “At $10 million, it will truly have the features of an open world.”

Judging by the recently added stretch goals, the $5 million feature he’s referring to is called a “character perspective system.” Much of the controversy surrounding the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has revolved around outside funding, something that many other Kickstarters have dealt with in the past but the original Shenmue 3 page had no information on. Yu Suzuki confirms that the game is in fact receiving outside funding, but he wouldn’t elaborate on how much and from where.

“For right now, all I can tell you is that YS Net has been looking at other sources of funding and we’re preparing other sources of funding, so for the Shenmue 3 project it will be what we can source from outside plus the Kickstarter,” he told Polygon. “But for right now that’s all we can say.”
Suzuki went into other details about the game, including the setting, VR, and the possibility of a Shenmue 4. $10 million is a hefty crowdfunding goal, but it’s not unheard of. Star Citizen had raised $77 million in March from Kickstarter and elsewhere, and games tend to do very well on the Kickstarter platform. The game is already up to around $3.5 million, earning it a spot on the list of top funded Kickstarters ever.

If the game doesn’t get up to $10 million, it’s possible that Suzuki would still get the funding elsewhere, or that he would release a more linear, story oriented game set in the Shenmue universe. There’s still 25 days left to go on the Kickstarter, so we’ll see how things progress.
