Did anyone's parents make y'all watch slave movies growing up?

I'm talking about movies like : ROOTS
QUEEN
AMISTAD (I don't know how to spell it)

Or any other black movie like Rosewood?

I've watched what I feel like is every black movie about history that I can think of. My mom didn't make me but she insisted that I did. I'm glad I did because its crazy how little children and teens don't know about their history.

Yes. My father was adamant on us learning about our history when we were children. By the time I was 10 I'd already seen Roots, remember watching Queen on television during its premier, seen Sankofa countless times (even went to an all black school in Lansing, MI called Sankofa Shule) had already read the story of Cinque' before Amistad's initial release (The movie failed to mention that upon his freedom, Cinque' returned to Africa and became a slave trader himself) and had a complete understanding of slavery and how it had and continues to affect the psyche of African Americans

My mother told me I couldn't handle it.

Till this day I never watched roots. Might go on a clear people killing spree.

Nah, I wasn't forced to watch them. Did watch Malcolm x a few times, since i come from a Muslim background. I've always had an interest in blk history and culture and pride anyway

Back then I was going to all white schools so I kinda felt mad inside the next day going to school. I think I was too young to see rosewood. I seen it when I was about 8 or 9. Right when the movie made it to DVD

Saw Malcom X and the movie Panther when I was mad young also. I remember crying like a little bytch at the scene where they handcuff Huey Newton while he was on the hospital bed with two gunshot wounds:sadcam: that scene really did affect me and make me want to go kill white people....

I wish they would make a movie about Nat turner. Although that may not be a good idea

Closest you gonna get to Nat Turner is the movie Sankofa. A slave named jongo in that movie spends the whole time plotting a rebellion against the plantation and killing as many white people as possible....

I read somewhere a few yrs ago about how they probably wouldn't do a Nat turner movie. So yea you're right.
