Not completely but that was also because Hip Hop was still slowly getting its mainstream acceptance (which is different from its cultural dominance at the time) and I guess it was sort of expected from certain artists to say shock things.

hearing X is Coming for the first time was an event....I was already tired of hip hop by 98 but X renewed my interest temporarily...and I mean very temporarily. Flesh was a trash album to me.
