I can tell I'm getting old when certain things get recycled on The Coli by younger posters who are at the stage in their lives where they are outraged by things that obviously require a level of context. It's wasted energy. I'd rather see these young posters use that energy to progress us forward than move backward.

For example, if we give Carlin's comments a certain amount of power, we're assuming that he's influenced generations with his message right? Next, let's use a reasonable amount of intellect to consider the fact that black comedians, (who also make racially insensitive jokes, often times with no context or redeeming value might I add) are more relevant, reach a much broader audience, have a wider ranging influence on American culture and are far more talented have far more power from that perspective. So looking at the situation from this perspective, shouldn't folks like the OP and folks that generally agree with the OP be more concerned with putting pressure on our black comedians to speak on subjects that help move us forward from a racial standpoint? Or would these folks answer be something like "nah, it ain't they job, they just telling jokes"?
