from '90 on this is how i see it:

-NWA/post-NWA (dre, cube, snoop) ruled from '90-92
-pac's reign as king from '93-95 until he was locked up
-biggie took over in '95
-in '96 when pac got out, he shared the throne with biggie
-post biggie-tupac it was puffy & mase shiny suit era in '97
-dmx took over in '98-2000
-eminem is hard to say, he's been a relevant fixture in hip hop since '99 and consistently sold well
-2000-2002 was the ja rule era
-2003-2005 was the 50 cent/g-unit era
-2006-2009 was the lil wayne era
-2010-2012 who knows (the drake era maybe? or perhaps finally the jay-z era)

how do you see it? did jay ever have an era all his own? or perhaps the power of jay was that he was able to stay relevant throughout most of the 90's to now

No, he successfully rode the waves of movements and until 03/04 thanks to revisionist and south emerging dominance it gave Jay top spot.

BP3 gave him his first number one hit single, but he also has more number one albums than any other artist (not just rapper) ...... like dude posted back in 98 you can tell he was going for the pinnacle.

he will never achieve due to his music, but he will remain top for a long while.

Pac did not reign 93-95...

Snoop Doggy Dogg did. Pac was more 95/96 when he became a huge star.

But Jay shared 98-2000 with DMX imo...

2005-2007 was the Kanye era.. wayne didnt get to superstar status til Carter 3

He shared the spotlight with X and Eminem 98-00.

The early 2000's belonged to Nelly,Eminem and Ja Rule.

Jay ain't never been the king by himself, but he's lasted the longest of anybody he came in the game with, I'd rather have a consistent career like his instead of flaming out in 2-3 years like X or 50 :manny:.

I don't know if I would call Nelly and Ja Rule the kings... Yeah their music dominated the airwaves and they were selling a ton of records, but were people really calling them the KINGS of their genre.

What do you mean by King? Cause if your going by album sales, he was never the most successful at being the top hip hop seller, but he has always sold a ton of records consistently....

If so, the Roc Era was definitely his era.. what year was that like 2003-2004?? Sometime after Em, was clearly his reign

What's the matter, did your little brain get tired after reading a couple words, inbred stupid fukktard?

That's what happens when a dude fukks his sister, spawns a retard kid that grows up to call himself "DopeMan" and tries to read posts on an internet board. Go back to the front of the short bus DopeFag.

he never reigned.

2003-04.. 50/G Unit was way hotter.... did you forget that his retirement album, wasn't even the biggest album to drop that year?
