Let's not forget he was ducking 'Kiss like a motherfukker.

from '90 on this is how i see it:
-NWA/post-NWA (dre, cube, snoop) ruled from '90-92
-pac's reign as king from '93-95 until he was locked up
-biggie took over in '95
-in '96 when pac got out, he shared the throne with biggie
-post biggie-tupac it was puffy & mase shiny suit era in '97
-dmx took over in '98-2000
-eminem is hard to say, he's been a relevant fixture in hip hop since '99 and consistently sold well
-2000-2002 was the ja rule era
-2003-2005 was the 50 cent/g-unit era
-2006-2009 was the lil wayne era
-2010-2012 who knows (the drake era maybe? or perhaps finally the jay-z era)
how do you see it? did jay ever have an era all his own? or perhaps the power of jay was that he was able to stay relevant throughout most of the 90's to now
pac ran 96' with fugees on his heels. NOT BIGGIE. YOUR WHOLE RUN DOWN IS WACK,you are very ignorantfrom '90 on this is how i see it:

only reason this is a discussion is because he been hot for so long...the thing with all those artists with exception to snoop, dre and ice cube is they were hot for only a couple years![]()
You could make a serious argument for Jay running '06-'07 mainstream wise.
He had the best selling hip-hop album in '06 (It was TIP but Jay edged past him in the long run)... then the first half of '07.
Also, Drake, Wayne, Eminem nor Kanye dropped a full album in '09 (Drake only dropped an EP, as did Wayne)... so how can '09-'10 not belong to Jay? Dude had BP3 playing on ESPN, ABC b-ball games, his songs were in movie ads everywhere... dude sold 2 million off that album. How can July '09-July '10 not belong to him?
I'd give Jay mid-'09 to mid-'10. Or at least late '06-late '07.
08-10 were kanye's
in 2009, Wayne was still King of Rap...without question.

So Kanye released no music in '09... yet '09 was ran by Kanye?
Wayne was king of rap all through 2009 yet his singles run died out in Spring '09?
So Jay's music wasn't on every ESPN show, every movie ad, he wasn't performing at the World Series, and he wasn't running with a #1 and #2 single from Aug '09 on?
Oh... oh okay. That Coli logic is a beast.![]()
