not just rhymes . . if that was the case there wouldn't be a problem, nobody owns rhymes they were already there. It's the lines that he "paid homage" to.
I'mma flip this on two times tho - this is a testament to how great Jay Z is as a writer because how many times have you heard him spit the same line from somebody and the original rapper made the exact same line sound 100x doper? (they are the ones that made the line notable to begin with). We've seen him get on tracks with artist that he's greatly disadvantaged to vocally (why do you think that Ja Rule and DMX supergroup didn't happen?) so vocally he's kind of like the Bob Dylan of rap . . he HAS TO BE a great writer.
