MJ's style was established dating back to the jackson 5 days in the 70s on the ed sullivan show before dudes like this even got it to music. MJ was spinning and heeheeing since way before jerycurls. So showing anybody that isn't in black and white on some Jackie wilson shyt probably means they got their influence from MJ and not the other way around.

I feel like MJ's style was fully developed by the time Dancing Machine came out. And really the only difference between him then and rest of his career is quincy jones, and the era of music as a whole.
The 80s was an Androgynous era.
I want to say this respectfully as I have a portion of my life dedicated to the intellectually disabled.
