Vivrant Thing isn't THAT different from something like ELectric Relaxation or Bonita Applebaum as far as content goes. of course i'm not saying the beat is as good or classic or anything like that but if Bonita was made in the mid-late 90s then it would have had a gang of bytches in small shorts dancing around as well

Yeah people are acting like Chuck D made the song haha

Songs and videos were both heat. Leila Arcieri had a nikka poking everytime I seen those vids. That bish was so bad she graced the 1st cover of King Magazine just off the love she got from Vivrant thing and Breathe and Stop. Hype Williams picked the perfect set of broads for both vids.

When I first saw Leila Arceri in that vid :ohlawd:

Song is a club classic and "Breath And Stop" was dope as well... I bought the album Amplify and it was one of the worst albums of all time :scusthov:

:what: song is a fukkin classic what universe do u guys live in

This is one of the biggest sell out songs of all time.. :beli:

If you grew up listening to Tribe, and was able to convince yourself that the "love movement" album was not that bad....

...This shyt by QTip finished off your child hoods love of rap music. Like Micheal Bay destroying Transformers... :scusthov:

..Tho in retrospect the song does bang. But still, a top 5 sell out song...

I was by far more annoyed that wack ass KORN had a feature on the album.

ultimately, yes the album was a big departure from the 'Tribe Called Quest' feel -- BUT GUESS WHAT? IT WASN'T TRIBES ALBUM.
he'd done the Tribe sound for years & seemed ready to move on, I wasnt at all surprised that when he finally broke out for himself that he switched the style up.

Seeing how cohesive the whole album is (pretty much ALL J.Dilla production -- clean, crispy, head nodding) I think it's safe to assume that's exactly what he actually wanted to express at that time -- which is kinda the opposite of "sellin out". it's not like he jumped on Timbaland beats, -- him & Dilla developed their own next sound.

Content-wise it was less "abstract" & that's probably the bigger disappointment than the production -- but lets not act like he hadn't previously beeen on that mackin shyt a good amount the time anyways. & the album still has shyt like:

if it had a few more deeper tracks (& no KORN) it'd probably catch a lot higher regard. As is, I'd term it more "meh" than "sellout".
Phife's wackass solo proved he followed his intincts well

i loved the amplified album. i loved the sound they created and the rhymes was dope in that q-tip kinda way. if he would have had some underground type videos for those songs people would have been more accepting

I notice that these chicks back then didn't have them mutated asses like today.

These diets and tastes are something else.

Females like this still exist it's just the sort of
body type dudes look for when they're picking females for their
videos has gotten more extreme.

I wouldn't outright assume any chick with a big @ss has had
plastic surgery or implants.

And there are plenty of them who didn't need injections or
any sort of plastic surgery to get the @ss they were born with :yeshrug:
A lot of them we regularly see in music videos.
