This is a real good clip illustrating what Suge does. He brought a fresh pair of eyes/ears, determined what worked & what made sense, etc.
Its unfortunate Suge/Dre split.
Obviously Dre did not need Suge, however for me personally, I just don't think Aftermath has a really strong catalog. Suge Knight's ear is always to the street. He's always in the clubs. Dre has been so far removed from the streets that he has a hard time gauging what is hot, which was the reason for his reluctance to release Detox.
I think the OP's question has been answered. Did he actually create the music? No, but if your in the studio everyday for years, your gonna obviously pick up some stuff. His job was to put together projects that would generate revenue.
I believe Suge became self aware & understood he was never going to have a talented roster like that again, so he just became petty. Acts like the Realest, Top Dogg, projects like chronic 2000, too gangsta for the radio, etc. All petty shyt. Everything was half ass.
Ohh no problem homie i was just pointing out what the real downfall ov suge and deathrow was .... Yeah like you said snoop and dre n them were great big artists but suge had never had an artist like tupac at the label and i could just imagine the jealousy etc going on behind closed doors ....I am not sure why you are having a hard time interpreting what I typed, which was pretty straight forward. Once Pac came to deathrow & displayed his insane work ethic, Suge started to neglect his other artists. He became content and felt that all he needed was Pac.
Harry O spoke on this, I believe on the Welcome 2 Death row documentary. He spoke on the conversations he had with Suge on how Pac was a workhorse that just wanted to stay in the studio. He literally felt Pac was all he needed.
Obviously there where an accumulation of things that led to Deathrow's downfall. This thread is not about beef/street shyt. This thread is about what did Suge bring to the table as a businessman & executive producer. He did a great job, but simply got content when Pac arrived.
