Iono OP..

You have a right to be offended, but from your story, I didn't read any mal intent from the guy.

I do get it. It annoys me when non Blks call me boss. But, I usually let it slide. Not worth dying on a hill solo on..

Some white people legit dont interact with black people at all and have no idea how to approach us.

Its happened to me a few times and i just put it on ignorance and poor social cues . Just a clumsy way of "being down".

Typically , when a white dude is being hostile or passive aggressive they don't use brotha, it’s normally "buddy" or "pal" or "skippy".
Calling a grown white man “buddy” is like calling them lil homie or scrap they hate it and it’s hilarious :pachaha:

interesting thread, gotta put checking a cac for that "brotha" shyt on my to-do-list :ehh:

shyt reminds me of when my crehette co-worker called me "buddy" one day, i checked her and told her not to call me that - - to this day, we're on the same team, doing daily stand up calls every day and she won't talk to me :mjlol::mjlol::manny:

another instance where i had an appointment a few months ago and the doctor (breh) walked in on some "what's up buddy" shyt - - told em' not to call me that, nikka hit the :whoa: and changed the subject :mjlol:

Depends on how he said it.

If he said it wit some phony city boy twang than he was mocking you at worst, uncomfortably trying to relate to you at best.

Otherwise I've seen plenty of older white folks call other men "brother." White kids today call each other "bro" more than we do.

Honestly, if brotha replaces nikka, I'll be a very happy man. That and white people call each other and some other people "brother". All the ones I've interacted with seem to do this after a while. Have me like :gucci: until I see them talk to other white people like that.
In Europe it's a Southern European thing.
In ex Yugoslavia and Bulgaria it's "brate", and in southern Italy "u' fra"...

I'm out doing errands and hold the door open for the person behind me who happens to be a cac.

He had the fukn nerve to say "thanks brotha :smugfavre: "

I said, "what did you call me???? :gucci: "

He starts to stutter and said "I s-said thanks :merchant: "

I hit him with "yea, I thought so :birdman:" And walked away. My girl was with me too and she told me she feels embarrassed to be around me sometimes and hasn't talked to me since.

Now I'm sittin at home feelin quite a bit ashamed :patrice:

Did this rude cac overstep?
Depends.

If he's southern and religious, but not racist....he can mean it like "my brotha in Christ." Of course I've usually heard it as "brotherrrrr" not "brotha."

If he's a Gen Z/Rogan type, he was trying to be slick.

It’s Stephen A. Smith’s fault.

85% of the ills of the black American community over the past 50 years can be traced directly back to the NYC tether community.

Nah I like when they call me boss. They usually scared and realize their place as my employee, like, "you got it boss :whoa: " :birdman:

To each one's own..

Would prefer sir over boss or chief.
