The whole trap craze did not start with Jeezy/Shawty Redd. What Jeezy and Shawty Redd were doing was an expansion of what T.I./DJ Toomp were doing. The sound that T.I./DJ Toomp had was birthed from Master P and UGK's "Break Em Off Somethin" according to Toomp. Lex Luger's sound was a combination of the Memphis sound (where Drumma Boy, another architect of the modern trap sound is from) and Shawty Redd's.
That said, Lex Luger's style of trap is what started the whole influx of these new trap producers. From that came EDM trap. It's also when other artists that weren't from Atlanta or even the South jumped on the trap bandwagon. Kanye had Lex co-produce a song for him. Then when Watch The Throne was coming out, Lex produced "Ham". In the South, it was "the sound". Gucci was putting on trap producers and Rick Ross drove that sound into the ground.
