From complex ptsd just from being in the family he grew up in, to blunt trauma to the brain, drug addiction, dude is a very hurt person that managed to make it work for him.
Listening to brain damage for the first time was funny, but once you find out it’s true it hits a little different. Still funny but also leaves you a little sad/pissed off. All the tension and dark humor, lashing out at people wasn't just for shock value, it was cathartic, as is a lot of his music.

His Mom sued the school board, Em was a kid. But yeah Brain Damage (apart from a few obvious exaggerations) is a true story. D'Angelo Bailey also tried suing Em but failed.
