first of all it was brought up years ago and this is one of the reasons i didn't like Hell Hath No Fury. i've never been much of a Neptunes or Clipse fan as it is and the repetition in the beats put me over the edge.

This bugged me the fukk out. As soon as I read the thread title it hit me. I can always tell Neptunes/Pharrell joints in the first 10 seconds, but it's not always because of the 1 bar intros.

There are even way more than what's on that video, like Ride Around Shinin' and Wamp Wamp off the Hell Hath No Fury album alone.

I been listening to the Neptunes since Use Your Heart and didn't know this. I feel ashamed that this went over my head.

Same here. But I think it's easy to go over the head because a 4 note intro is a pretty common thing in music across the board, or even people counting out "1, 2, 3, 4..." and then playing.

So even though Pharrell/Neptunes use it a lot, it's not like it's something you never hear from others.

I think that's why some people are saying they never noticed.

I don't think it's a tag, but more just a thing he does a lot.

I think of a tag as being something a producer places in a beat to let you know that they did it.

I don't really like tags that much. I think most of them are sort of annoying. Some big name producers even stopped doing them. Just Blaze stopped doing the "Just Blaaaze" thing, Alchemist stopped using the "A-a-a-al-alchemist" tag, and Kanye West stopped using the Howard Dean style "yeeeaaaoowww" tag.

If someone does a tag, I like when it's something musical and not something like, "You are now listening to Araab Muzik."

They used it on Hell Hath No Fury. They use that shyt on the first 8 tracks, minus Dirty Money.

I always wondered if Pharrell started producing more without Chad around the time of this Clipse album...













I checked out Lord Willin and only heard it on this. I'm going to listen to more late early 00's Neptunes joints to see if I hear it more.
