Its not a tag, plenty of musicians do this across multiple genre's. Its not somethig pharrell/neptunes own lol.

No it's not a "tag" as in it's only his thing. But it is a signature of his style. But he doesn't always do it, I didn't notice til a few years ago when it was pointed out on a thread here, And I own physical copies of both clipse albums and all the NERD albums, and seen them live twice.
