Did your parents emphasize studying when you were in school.

When I was growing up, I wasn't great at math so mom-dukes got me a tutor and used to give me extra work to do to sharpen up. I hated it back then but it helped.

Did your folks emphasize this kind of thing?

Absolutely.

But I had my own natural drive to read and learn, so they only had to hit me with a and I did my work and the extra credits.

Yeah they went crazy wit it made me read 2 new books every month and I wasnt even allowed videogames or go outside with my friends with anything less than a 85 (B+) in any class

she was more concern with me not embarrassing her by acting "unruly" in class.

Like i can literally, not exaggerating have mostly As and a couple of Bs but she'll get mad that the teacher writes, "student talks too much"

at least i was able to get an xbox and a psp because of my good grades

Of course. No extra curriculars if i didn't at least have a 3.5. I got one C in 6th grade and had to quit the basketball team to get my GPA. Mine you my other grades was straight A's. That's when i knew it was real to them. Never had another other issues with school through college. National honor society and all that on deck while hoopin the whole way through.

yes. my dad had me doing extra math and english work from when i was in kindergarden or grade 1

My mother told me since K, study hard and get good grades so you can get a scholarship to college. I got one to high school and college thankfully. Made momma proud.

Moms and step pops paid me for As and docked me for Cs (never got those) was what I negotiated. LOL

It was more so pressure from my siblings because they did so well in school.

Yeah, graduated top 10 of my class with a 4.42 gpa... if I am where I am at today, I do have to thank them for setting up the foundation for me. I can study and understand anything fairly quickly.

They did was I was younger but they relaxed A LOT by the time I got to high school. I kinda wish they hadn't, because I was beast in college (when I knew I had to study to pass). If I actually studied in high school, my grades would've been so much better, and hell, my whole life could've been different.

my mama was a teacher and just retired from 4 decades in education.

Yes, but after a while, they didn't need to say anything to me other than actually doing the homework early and not procrastinate. The grades stayed high so they didn't have to stay on my neck.
