Man this thread saddened me. Maybe I'm looking at it differently than some of you (in-fact I know I am.) But, this thread really just took away a lot of my respect for Timbaland.

I know he's a beast and one of the "all-time" names. But I had no idea that large of a percentage of his catalog was "lifted." Vid came on I was like:

:ohhh::dwillhuh::merchant::wtb::aicmon::scusthov:

I understand there are a lot of producers who thrive off sampling like Kanye, Jus Blaze etc. but I always just took their level of skill with a grain of salt.

I thought Timbaland actually played his shyt. Turns out 80% of his hits were loops that he put "cool drums" behind? :smh: I understand sampling is a part of hip-hop but damn homie.

Timbo's just the "cool drums" guy?

:to:

u make beats homie? its not easy to just loop and add drums and boom you got a beat

I'm familiar with production. I acknowledged that it's a craft to use a sample. It's not that it's easy to do. At the same time stealing a car requires skill too.

My problem is it's not an original product. I prefer musicians who make original products. Here I've been all this time thinking Tim was a great producer and it's all built on fallacies. The way he sampled wasn't like 9th Wonder where you know it's a sample. He took melodies like Big Pimpin' for example that if you hadn't heard the original song you'd have no idea he stole it. I can't rock with that. I think it's too often overlooked that sampling is stealing. Rappers get criticized for biting. Why do producers get this pass?

I acknowledge that sampling played a big role in the beginning of hip-hop but at the same time, the genre would be more credible and authentic if we as members of the hip-hop community took responsibility and said "Look, no more sampling, no more biting." At some point to be legitimate the community has to police itself.

The problem is people won't do that because too many corny producers and their folks couldn't put together a song without it. You open up a Logic session and give some of these dudes 20 virtual instrument tracks and they couldn't make a poop beat in an hour.

Look at that 9th Wonder thread. The dude is literally sitting there with ZERO instruments, just mashing up other people's music on an MPC and people in the thread are like "Yooo that shyt is dope!!!!" :gladbron:

Is it? :comeon:

That shyt is theft and trash.

It's like watching a Globetrotters game compared to a Knick game.

There's no authenticity or accountability though because no one checks these people. It's up to the community as a whole to step in and say look, we've let this shyt go for a minute now. As of today, you sample dudes are your own genre, and those of us who really make music are going to have this lane over here.

You're gonna get roasted for this post, but i feel u. Although i'll never shyt on samplers, cause that's how hiphop began,i'll never place a sampler above an original producer that can still make quality beats.

Already been roasted up and down breh...

But I was always taught to consider the source.

In this thread: butthurt wannabe producers who make trash sample beats because they couldn't play something hot to save their lives.

I don't play them emotional games. My thoughts are based on fact. I like authentic shyt.

Dudes probably think fake Jordans are better than real ones because "They took the Jordan logo and flipped it on some new shyt, thus making old into new. I like how they took that real shyt but added a new cool colorway "

You think sampling is so easy I'd like to see some "composer" take 10 different records and use different components of those songs, parts of which are in different keys and different tempos etc and brig it together to make a beat like Pete Rock or Prince Paul or RZA etc or take a piece of a song that is barely noticed, 4 notes in a 6 min song and turn it into something like Mass Appeal

Ur analogy is fukkin stupid...and with ur mentality u basically shyttin on every legendary hip hop producer in the game...including the ones who play live instruments...MOST of the most classic hip hop records come from sampling...and u shyttin on all that...and claiming to love the culture at the same time...THATS why u gettin roasted...it aint cause nikkas is fake beatmakers..its cause u playing yaself more and more by the post...
