SEO is getting weaker. organic search is favoring links between websites less, and is becoming more about quality content and real people sharing it.

PPC is solid

freelance work can be terrible if you use those popular websites to get work. those are only good if you are using a low priced service offering as a way to then upsell a client on something else. (a five dollar keyword research report to then sell them on letting you manage their PPC account for much more money, maybe)

you're probably going to need to do everything. promote yourself online by blogging about what you do and contribute to professional groups and forums that deal with online marketing stuff. and make proposals to small businesses that have a terrible online presence. you can do their work for cheap at first so you have somebody you can get a case study on the results your work got them and you can then get a testimonial from them to put on your own site. you can also attend local marketing conventions and network with people who might need to outsource some of their work to you.

you can also choose a niche, like dentists, and then start prospecting to as many local dentists as you can by simply reaching out to them and explaining how you can improve their sales. you might need to go to a dental trade show and start handing out business cards.

the easiest way is to just get a job in an online marketing agency first. learn the skills, then learn what each person in the company does. sales and retention are things you would need to be good at if you are on your own.

basically, those freelance sites are a bottom of the barrel market with indians who will write cheap copy and maybe even build websites for cheap. many of the clients are actually marketing firms who are outsourcing their least important work. you will earn more money becoming a visible expert in the field online while also doing traditional selling to businesses directly, but this is predicated on your own natural strengths as a salesperson.

Here are some of the tools I'm using on my site and campaigns:

Wordpress: our site is a wordpress site and is using woocomerce for the shopping cart
Picreel: I use this for exit intent popups. The popup only happens when the user is getting ready to leave the page. It's my first time using but supposedly they have a better conversion rate
Mailchimp: our email list management provider
Instapage: we use this to make our landing pages. It's drag and drop and integrates with mailchimp and wordpress
Cloudflare: we got cloudflare for our CDN to help speed our site up
Zohomail: our email provider. It's free and allows us to use our domain for our email addresses

Eventually I want to setup retargeting so my ads can have longer legs. I need to spend time going over our blog and make sure the SEO is on point.

Hopefully some other cats who advertise on the internet will post some good shyt

I do PPC full time and SEO consulting, did Paid Facebook in the past. My Woman does Graphic Design full time and web design on the side. I will say your best bet is to approach businesses directly after getting at least 7 years experience at a couple of firms widely known in your region.

That fiverr shyt, CL, etc. NONE OF THAT WORKS. Use LinkedIn and you gotta network in-person. Get to know businesses in your area as a consumer, talk to them and see if they have any marketing problems, and most of all if it's an awareness problem.

I don't know too much about affiliate, I've tried it a few times and never saw any results with tests I've ran. I think it's mostly about relationships.

Breh do you design landing pages? I'm doing my first campaign and I'm focusing on AdWords right now. I started the ad this week and had a pretty poor CTR and 0 conversions (my first AdWords campaign).

I started reading up and realized the issue was my LP. I think I'm gonna hire a designer to make it.

I work in the industry and your content is everything. If your content sucks everything is fukked. Most small businesses don't put enough time and money into their websites and that's why they fail online.
