The reason why Dilla was so great was how he constantly evolved as a producer.

He went from being a Q-Tip understudy to a Soulquarian to making offbeat minimal electro stuff to then giving us his own unique take on soulbeats on Donuts.

They guy never stayed on one sound for very long. He could do it all. Mellow, bangers, soulful, experimental, r&b. You name it.

He's even transcended hip hop and has become a huge influence on lo-fi indie artists and electronic musicians.

dude ain't changed my life or nothing but as a fellow producer I think that's a crazy ass sample flip. Especially how he didn't pitch shift the sample and the BPM of the final beat is like 30 BPMs slower than the original Janet version.
