I thought we were looking at this thread from the POV that Dirk was being a consummate pro and doing what's in the best interest of the team.
I agree 10000% that players should be paid more than they are, across all sports. People need to wake up and realize that Jose Calderon makes more than Patrick Kane annually...
I side with every player, every time, on every holdout. And always side with the Union during strikes. But there's nothing to be done. It virtually is a plantation owner-slave type of system. The loaded owners and people who profit from the league in the league office in essence collude and place rules that essentially determine salary ceilings for players. While they make ridiculous returns off them.
What can be done tho.
As the years pass by and CBAs expire and need to be reworked, the League will continue to rape the players' Unions. It's only going to get worse...

Dirk has said in interviews he turns down all endorsement contracts and just gives the free shyt companies send him to promote away to his friends. He gives 0 fukks about making money off the imaging, branding, and entertainment that being a pro athlete brings.
He probably doesn't even view this contract as a "paycut" like the rest of us do. He most likely thinks he's making far more than he deserves for playing a game as is, and $10mil per in the latter stages of his career when he just wants to contend is more than adquate. Especially given the recent deals KG and Duncan signed.

The very concept that players are now being pressured to take paycuts on salaries that are already artificially and arbitrarily lowered by a salary cap, is crazy to me...the very best players are already LITERALLY forced to receive salaries that are a fraction of what they would command in a truly free market, and now they're "greedy" for not sufficiently getting lil boy'd even more out of the fraction they're allowed to get...all the while, the owners are signing billion dollar local tv deals and turning 9 figure annual profits during down years
