There is nothing weird about it. Look at the email - it’s a law firm AKA big law firm Jenner. They’re asking for tips because they want to know how much liability there is and to say that they’ve conducted a comprehensive investigation. They felt they had enough to terminate him but they don’t know if they have the full story. They want to know everyone who knew something. You don’t want new facts popping up later. And by using a law firm it’s conducted under privilege. Obviously that doesn’t stop any student from speaking out.
