Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Do you find luxury apartments to be worth the money or do you mind going for a non luxury place but have the cleanliness and creativity to make it look nice?

For example I don’t see the need for me to pay for a movie theatre, mini golf or gym set to justify paying 3K - 4.5K for a 1 bedroom (im in NY so luxury prices might vary in your city)

I only care about laundry being in the building or being in the unit.

Opinions?

Nowadays they claim anything as a "luxury apartment".

Put some grey laminate floors. stainless steel appliances, a glass shower, a "resort style" pool, and some planet fitness weights and all of a sudden its "luxury".

Most of the time you're just paying for the neighborhood.

Some people don't care about the "aesthetic" of luxury and just want a decent apartment that is simply not a complete piece of shyt.

The fact that countertops or a washer and dryer looks nice wears off in about a week. It's all about function after that.

My "must haves" are an in unit washer/dryer (or connections), a place (or room) for an office and decent sized closets for storage.

Seeing people pay monthly for a gym, pool, sauna, and "party room" they never use is wild.

The underground heated parking with 24/7 surveillance, on-site washer/dryer, with a balcony seem worth it.
Right even in expensive NYC I see deals in non luxury spots that have the things I need for everyday use.

I have never been interested in using a residential gym.

Facts.

I can make the place dope myself.. as long as the kitchen and bathrooms are modern/nice.. just give me the space.

I won't lie, in some cities I'd love a luxury apartment or condo. Not in Alabama though. You can get a really nice home dorm the price of an apartment in other cities or less but if I were in a big city I'd love a spot with views.

I paid that much, and didn't get those, lol, and smh.

The real question is, what would you pay extra for?

The only thing that comes to mind is 24 hour packages. If I came in from the job at 10 pm (which was often), I could go grab that Amazon package from an actual person.

With NYC specifically, I'd pay more money for a crappier apartment to live in a better neighborhood. Move from UES to the LES for example.

Edit - I knew a couple of cats that lived on the top floor of a rowhouse/brownstone - and they had private roof access.

That's worth the money.

It's all a scheme. I've never used the gym at any apartment where I've lived. The only time I've used the cabana area & wading/infinity pool is when my daughter comes into town. I don't have pets so why tack a doggy park maintenance onto my rent (speaking of which, I've only stayed in one complex that's done it but I believe it should be mandatory. Pets (see dogs) owners need to provide feces samples of their pets so if they don't pick up after their pets, they get charged out the ass for it). The only perks besides peace and quiet I need are Amazon/package lockers, in-unit washer and dryer, and the community is gated. There's no reason to charge me $50 for "valet trash disposal" when the gotdamn dumpster is literally steps away from my building.
