"Disney Adults" are individuals, often millennials, who exhibit a strong, passionate, and frequently financial obsession with Disney products, parks, and characters.

millennials are old enough now to get into the phenomenon and give it a name but disney adults started with boomers. my grandmother's 'white' best friend was one. both were executives at a national bank. we'd go visit her friend and her friend's house was decorated on the outside and inside with disney characters. the gate to her driveway had the iron outline of mickey's face similar to this....

disney tchotchkes from floor to ceiling everywhere around the house. custom made disney character woodwork and stained glass windows.

then had a mickey mouse shaped pool.

and of course, a disney timeshare that they went to like five times a year. by the time my parents started taking us to visit disney (staying at her timeshare) when i was ten, i had no interest cuz disney was gail's house fa me.

the particular obsession with theme parks always seemed to be a boomer/gen x thing. hollywood movies like national lampoon and their obsession with wallyworld or the movie clifford and the obsession with dinosaur world pokes fun at that phenomenon. millennials being old enough, and chasing nostalgia, are now just coming into the fold.

"Disney Adults" are individuals, often millennials, who exhibit a strong, passionate, and frequently financial obsession with Disney products, parks, and characters. They represent a growing subculture seeking comfort, nostalgia, and a "magical" escape from reality through frequent park visits, merchandise collection, and Disneybounding. While often criticized as "cringe" or obsessed, they are largely a diverse group finding community. "

Actually i stand corrected, this is pretty wholesome.

With black anime nerds there is a distinct pattern of mental illness and c00nery. The mental illness mostly stemming from the c00nery. Especially if your in that older generation where only cacs were watching it heavy like that. Growing up,most black folks wouldve thought Anime was a local soul food restaraunt owned by a heavy set black woman. Its more common among black youth today. Although the pattern still seems to remain. So it must be something in the content:respect:
i see what you did there

Sound like wrestling fans

must be a florida thing

It started as a California Thing.

You could buy the season pass for ~$300 and it meant that you had a "low cost" option for something to do every day that year.... A lot of the Asians in OC did it cause of how little there is to do entertainment wise without going to LA or SD.

Disney adults are a subgroup of that, and they're borderline chomos. They're literally adults who've tried to co-op a childrens/family experience into a place to meet like minded adults. It's not about enjoying theme parks, cause there are no Cedar Point adults, Six Flags adults etc.....it's about them actively immersing themselves in things for children.

There are no Marvel Adults, Warner Bros. Adults ether.

Being a Disney Adult is literally a personality trait they put on dating profiles....ask yourself, why would that be something you'd put out there in order to make yourself attractive to someone else?

Especially if you're a guy, I'd be more inclined to believe you have pedo tendencies :manny:

People would see this behavior for what it actually is, if it was overwhelmingly /exclusively men who were doing this.

The only difference between this and those adults that pretend to be infants, is that these people engage in their "lifestyle" amongst children.

I've got a relative who is one essentially. I relate it to their childhood trauma/coping mechanisms and an overall Peter Pan complex.

It is sad and personally I feel they're selling themselves short of other life experiences, sometimes literally with those park prices.

A lot of reasons for this: Breakdown of communities and family structure, consumerism, childhood trauma, escapism/nostalgia, no real rites of passage into adulthood besides getting your drivers license, moving out and getting laid. A more secular world which is overall better but it results in a world that seems less "magical" so people seek out transcendence through other means. (media, drugs, sex, runners high, politics, etc.)

Even travelling to other countries can turn into "wanderlust", running from problems at home and Peter Pan mentality. People use all sorts of things to cope with childhood trauma.
