I read this book last week by Dan Lyons, who I hadn't heard of before, but apparently was known for being an exec at Newsweek, and publishing a blog Fake Steve Jobs, in the mid 2000's. He worked at tech start up Hubspot for a year or so, and wrote a book about, also becoming a one time writer on 'Silicon Valley' in the process.

Very critical, interesting, and sometime surprising take on the tech/Silicon Valley culture, some which I knew (the neo liberal capitalism) and some I didn't, structures and P& L strategies of the companies themselves). I love books like this, about the bizarre workplace/office politics of white collar jobs and the grueling, menial work behind these companies, the power struggles, exploitation, it's all fascinating. This was a quick read, that I really enjoyed. It has hints of books like 'Nickel & Dimed' though obviously no one is making minimum wage at these startups, it's part comedy, part expose, part confessional. It was a great companion piece to 'The Mythology Of Work', which I read earlier this year.

Of course, there will be it's detractors, and the CEO of Hubspot put out a very mild rebuke of the books claims.
